In 2014, David was introduced to the sport of Orienteering. This outdoor challenge, which perfectly blends critical thinking with physical endurance, captivated him. However, he quickly identified a significant market gap in the compass industry: the available orienteering compasses were sharply polarized—either low-cost, low-performance beginner models, or high-performance, prohibitively expensive options from established Scandinavian brands.

As an expert compass designer, David Lin took a stand. He was determined to engineer and manufacture professional-grade, stable, and highly reliable compasses for everyone who loves orienteering, ensuring elite quality was no longer exclusive.

Driven by this mission, David founded the brand Kanpas (康百世), which literally means "The Standard of Measurement" (measuring all things).
